Derek Cox - Senior Youth and Community Worker

Derek Cox began working in Tower Hamlets in 1963 for St Hilda's East Settlement and started working for Avenues Unlimited from 1965. Because Derek has such a long history of working in this area he is known and trusted by the local community and mainstream agencies. Derek has been a part of many local initiatives such as the Bethnal Green Youth Consortium, and has built up partnerships with: TOC H, Stepney Children's Fund, Spitalfields City Farm, Christchurch Gardens Youth and Community Centre and Oxford House. Derek is involved on the Management Committees of other local agencies such as Christchurch Gardens and Tower Hamlets Law Centre. Derek works with all members of the community to provide help, advice and support. One of the most challenging areas is working with young offenders, sadly a growing area of need in Spitalfields. With this in mind, Derek heads up the Youth Project.
