What is The Iftin Project?
This is a project for local Somali children, young people and
their families. We organize events and activities at Christchurch
Gardens Youth and Community Center opposite the Spitalfields
Market. During the school holidays we run trips and activities
including several residentials during the summer.
There is little provision for the Somali community in Tower
Hamlets and some of our families travel quite long distances
to take part in the projects. We would like to extend this work
and have recently employed a Somali male worker who works with
some of the older boys.
Who Can Take Part?
Anyone from local Somali families. Our main emphasis is on
children aged 8-18.
When Does it Take Place?
This takes place every Saturday from 10 am - 6 pm at the Christchurch
Gardens Youth and Community Center.
Project Workers are:
Amina Handoule, Farhan Hirsi and Wais Mahdi Ali as well as
several dedicated volunteers.
