The Mayor and Leader of the Council visit New Avenues AGM

AGM - 9th December 2004

On Thursday 9th December we held our first event to showcase our project. The event was held at the plush location of one of our most generous sponsors:- Execution Ltd who are based in the regenerated, ultra trendy Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. The guest speaker was Halal Abbas Uddin, leader of the Tower Hamlets council and previous member of New Avenues. Abbas spoke elequently about young people in Tower Hamlets urging them to get involved with their local community, especially local politics and to make the most of their opportunities. In addition to the leader of the council the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, also attended the event.

The Mayor urged young people to get a good education in order to make the most of new employment opportunities being created in the borough and to to encourage others to learn.

Staff and young people attended the event and it was a morale boost to all involved. Everyone took part in making food and all attendees enjoyed refreshments and a chance to talk after the speeches. Several young people attended and were keen to talk about their experiences at New Avenues.
